MINUTES OF THE YC-AFT LOCAL 4952
EXECUTIVE BOARD, October 22, 2005
I. The meeting of the executive board of Yuba College-American Federation of Teachers, Local 4952 was called to order by President Dan Salamone at 12:10 pm in Clearlake, CA. Members present: Dave Althausen, Doug Harris, Tom Marquette. CFT Representative Jeff Frietas was also present.
II. Motion to Approve minutes of YCAFT meetings held 9/24/05 in Williams, CA was made. Motion Carried.
III. Financial Report: No Financial Report.
IV. President’s Report:
Dan reported briefly on activities in the campaign to defeat ballot measures sponsored by the governor, including fliers that had been mailed. Fliers were distributed to those present to put in campus mailboxes of members.
V. New Business
A. Stipend Increase:
Dane indicated his interest in doubling stipends. Discussion revealed that it’s been unclear what treasurer compensation has been and also that no secretary stipend (other than the member stipend for the secretary) had been provided since the departure of the last secretary. Dan agreed to get more information about past practice before proposing any specific action.
B. Campus Level Elections
Tom asked for a discussion on this point. Doug provided his summary of constitution and by-law provisions (including a provision for elections at each campus yearly) that need examination. A committee of Tom, Doug, and if available, Heidi, and Jay, to review this matter further.
VI. Academic Senate Report
Dave reported that the senate approved and the district has decided, staring with grades for Fall 2005, that grades will be submitted on line via the district’s web advisor. The campus will also be closed for two weeks over semester break. This raised questions about a change in working conditions for adjunct without renegotiations, if grade deadline is after the office closes. Adjunct faculty would be required to have internet access. This information was not currently known.
Dave reported he raised the question for the senate to consider whether adjunct faculty could serve as EEO member of hiring panels. The senate president is investigating this.
VII. Next meeting is set for noon on 11/12/05 in Woodland at El Saporo restaurant.
VIII. The meeting was adjourned at 1:51 pm.
Respectfully Submitted by Doug Harris, Secretary
